RUDE: Greg is gruff to deal with on any service issue. Basically, it is "HIS SHOP" and the customer is low on list on level on importance. He makes the mistake of thinking that since he is decent at repair, he can offer as little service as he can to his customers.
GREEDY: They charge for estimates, and the office guy promises to refund it towards any work done. Then fail to keep the promise. I had nearly $500 worth work there done and Greg haggled with me about the estimate fee. Now, this is even though they delayed my repair an extra day .
The bad experience was due to an odd electrical problem, and this is where I think Greg and the garage do not have the required capability (at least for this model). The instrument panel began acting very strangely - the transmission indicator went blank, and the tachometer alternated between 0 and the actual RPMs. The vehicle was brought in in October, and they thought that the instrument cluster needed replacement. They allowed me to purchase a remanufactured cluster from an online dealership to save money, but then proceeded to use it only as a "swap-in" test, which did not correct the problem. They next traced the issue down to the TCU ("it's 90% likely to be the problem" he said) , and again I provided a new TCU for them to install. Again, the TCU proved to not be the source of the issue...
Greg then stated that the issue was in the ABS controller. At this point, I asked that the car be put back together so that I can take it elsewhere. It was clear he was swapping things out to see what was wrong without truly diagnosing the issue.
OVERPRICED: The rates seem good, which suckers you in to the shop. But the real prices on hours and labor time is seriously inflated. I priced the estimates out on 4 different jobs and Greg's was about 25% more than a good price (non dealer) at European auto shops. I saved $500 on a "$1800" job (same *exact* job, parts and labor) by shopping around.
As a final insult, the fuse and wiring cover in the driver wheel well was broken when they reinstalled it and now hangs down.
I have had two separate experiences with this shop - one was great, one was terrible. Both were for the same vehicle - a 2003 Eurovan. Unfortunately, the bad experience far outweighs the good...
Unfortunately Greg is not a very honest mechanic.
Greg is dishonest and clearly doesn't know how to work on Touaregs. I'd recommend finding someone else.
GREG DOSE 5 STAR WORK ON AUDI. I LIVE IN BOSTON BUT IT WORTH THE DRIVE THERE BECAUSE I GET GREAT WORK AND I DON'T HAVE TO PAY THE AUDI DEALER A ARM AND LAG. IT IS REALLY HARD TO FIND SOMEONE THAT CARE ABOUT THE SERVICE THEY DO AND PUTS THERE NAME BEHIND THERE WORK. I RECOMMEND ANYONE THAT HAS A AUDI TO BRING IT TO GREG'S AUDI AND VW REPAIR CENTER FOR 5 STAR WORK!!!
Above average prices for Poor Customer Service, unapologetic for Delays. Find another mechanic.
I want to make clear that Greg was not the mechanic who fixed my vehicle but the man who Greg left in charge to run his shop while he was away. My wife and I specifically asked for "no oil change," there was a rattling in the engine that we wanted diagnosed. I proposed that perhaps the issue might be the transmission fluid. Without calling to ask beforehand the mechanic in charge had our oil changed and he also changed the transmission fluid, which did not fix the issue (we found out later that the heat plate was loose, totally unrelated issue). Even though the mechanic was the one who made the mistake he charged us for the oil change.
The office guy is easy going but when you actually deal with Greg, is all about getting your $$$ while providing as little service as possible. DON'T LISTEN TO ANYTHING THE OFFICE MANGER SAYS. HE HAS NO AUTHORITY. GREG HAS ALL THE SAY ON PRICE AND TIME AND IS UNFRIENDLY AND GREEDY.
I bought my car in the day before and the office guy said they would look at it next morning>>>they did not start until 4PM. So, the work was delayed by one extra day.
My right headlight went out on my '04 VW Touareg and Greg quoted me a price less than the dealer to repair it. Wanting to save a few bucks, I went with his offer. When it came time to pay, he asked for a price HIGHER than the dealer's, about $60 more than he had originally quoted me.
Furthermore, he yelled at me about the fact that it took him "forever" to even get the light back in. I came to find out the reason it took "forever" is because he broke the headlight casing. This cost me an additional $800 to fix.
The entire affair took almost three months (admittedly a few weeks here due to component shipping, but still far too long), and I was left with very expensive components that were purchased but not returnable since the wrapper had been opened. Throughout this entire time I had to continually ask for status updates via email and phone calls - it was obvious that my van was not being actively looked at.
SLOW:
The good experience was in repairing a fluid leak in the transmission. The van had been "repaired" twice prior by a local VW dealership, who had misdiagnosed the root cause to a warped pan and gasket. Greg quickly found the true source of the leak to be due to a broken multifunction switch seal, and we were back in business with nary a drop of fluid on the ground.
